James is currently leading the DunnettCraven team on the restructuring of the public space in Stadsthart Almere and was responsible for the practice’s recent competition-winning submission in Fürth, Germany. He is also working on retail projects in Zoetermeer and Bonn and is responsible for shopping centre refurbishment schemes in Stockholm, Eindhoven and London.
He has wide experience of public private partnership, particularly in Germany and the Netherlands, where he has advised NS, the national railway company, extensively on redevelopment proposals in Amsterdam, Utrecht and the Zuid As.
He qualified with a first class degree and diploma from Strathclyde University in 1988 and became a registered architect in 1989 in the UK and 1992 in Germany.
James worked as an architect for Fitch-RS in London and Dusseldorf from 1987 to 1994. Competition-winning projects from this period include the Merseburg Bruhl 1991, Altmarkt Forum 1992 and Retail Centre Stendal 1993.
He then worked for BKGG, Clemens & Partner and Meyer Ernst & Partner from 1994 to 1996 before setting up Architekturburo Craven in Berlin.
He joined the MAB Concept Group in Den Haag in 1997 and was promoted to lead the group in 2003. Projects from this period include the 200,000m² mixed use Oosterdoks Eiland in Amsterdam, Pieter Vreede in Tilburg, the 160,000m² mixed use Frankfurt Zeil and Messe Haus in Leipzig.
