2,000m² retail

DunnettCraven was commissioned to remodel the insufficient retail and catering facilities at Marco Polo Airport, and to design an additional 2,000m2 of space for new restaurants, bars and luxury retail. We added new escalators to improve circulation to an entirely new level of retail – particularly catering – which worked as a mezzanine to the main space overlooking the runway.
A curved barrisol canopy was developed to sit above glass screens fronting the shops. These screens could either serve as shop windows or be slid away altogether to invite customers into the retail spaces. As a result of the re-design airport revenue has dramatically increased, with shop and food sales exceeding expectations. In an airport where rising passenger numbers have tightened the space available in the main concourse, the mezzanine has created a much appreciated area of calm with terrific views for passengers.
